Family Droseraceae Salisb. – sundew family

Genus Drosera L. – sundew

  • Drosera rotundifolia L. – common sundew or round-leaved sundew. Perennial. Sphagnum bogs, moss pads on coastal rocks, damp lake shores; common.
  • Drosera anglica Huds. – English sundew or Great sundew. Perennial. In minerotrophic parts of bogs; common. There have been reported hybrids between two species of sundew (D.  obovata Mert. et Koch)

Family Polygonaceae Juss. – knotweed family, smartweed family

Genus Bistorta (L.) Adans. – Bistort

  • (+)Bistorta officinalis Delarbre (Polygonum bistorta L.) – Common Bistort. Perennial. On an upland meadow near the destroyed barracks at the Ershovskie lakes.
  • Bistorta vivipara (L.) Delarbre (Polygonum viviparum L.) – Alpine Bistort. Perennial. Wet seashore meadows, bogs, damp thickets and glades; common.

Genus Persicaria (L.) Mill. – smartweeds or pinkweeds

  • (+($) Persicaria lapathifolia (L.) S. F. Gray (Polygonum lapathifolium L.) – pale persicaria or nodding smartweed. - Annual. Reported as a weed in the vegetable garden of the WSBS settlement.

Genus Polygonum L. – knotgrass, smartweed

  • Polygonum boreale (Lange) Small – Northern Knotgrass. Annual. Along sea shore and near buildings; rare.
  • Polygonum raii Bab. – Ray's knotgrass. - Collected once at the sea shore of the WSBS settlement.

Taxonomy of this genus is very complex, due, in particular, to the widespread hybridization. It is not impossible, that other species will be found at the Kindo peninsula.

Genus Rumex L. – docks and sorrels

  • Rumex acetosella L. – Sheep's Sorrel, Common Sheep Sorrel, Field Sorrel, Red Sorrel - Perennial. Weed at the WSBS settlement; quite rare.
  • Rumex aquaticus L. – Western Dock - Perennial. Near the Ershovskie lakes, sea shores at the confluence of streams; rare.
  • (+)Rumex confertus Willd. – Asiatic Dock - Near the destroyed barracks not far from the Ershovskie lakes.
  • (+)Rumex longifolius DC. – Dooryard Dock, Northern Dock - Perennial. As a weed near buildings at the WSBS settlement; often. It is difficult to determine whether the species existed here in 1960s.
  • Rumex pseudonatronatus Borb. – Field Dock - Perennial. Supralittoral; common. Reporting R. crispus L for the Kindo peninsula, refers to this species.
  • Rumex thyrsiflorus Fingerh. – Compact dock, Thyrse sorrel - Perennial. Supralittoral and dry seashore glades; common.

Family Amaranthaceae Juss. (including Chenopodiaceae Vent. – Goosefoot Family)

Genus Atriplex L. – saltbush, orache, orach

  • A. nudicaulis Bogusl. s.l. (A. kuzenevae N. Sem., A. lapponica Pojark.) – Baltic Saltbush - Annual. Supralittoral – common; as a weed near buildings – rare. From this species (which might be more correctly named A. longipes Drej. s.l.), some reseachers often isolate several close species, which require further study. According to А.П. Сухоруков (oral report), at the Wite Sea coast, there grow two species: A. nudicaulis s. str. and A. praecox Hülph. Both species reported on the Kindo peninsula, while A. nudicaulis s.str. strongly dominates.

Genus Beta L. – beet

  • (+)($)Beta vulgaris L. – Common Beet - Annual, biennial. Collected once in a non-blooming state at the WSBS settlement.

Genus Chenopodium L. – Марь

  • (+)($)Chenopodium album L. – М. белая. Annual. Weed near buildings.

Genus Salicornia L. – glasswort, pickleweed, marsh samphire

  • Salicornia europaea L. – Common Glasswort - Annual. Silty littoral; quite often.
  • Salicornia pojarkovae (N. Semen.) – Pojarkova's Glasswort -. Annual. Silty littoral; quite often. The species described is from the Rugozerskaya Bay coast.

Salicornia taxonomy is rather complicated; not all plants are being able to be identified satisfactorily.

Family Caryophyllaceae Juss. – pink family, carnation family

Genus Cerastium L. – Mouse-ear chickweed

  • (#)Cerasium alpinum L. – Alpine mouse-ear chickweed, Alpine chickweed - Perennial. On rocks; rare.
  • Cerasium fontanum Baumg. s. l. (C. holosteoides Fries) – Common mouse-ear - Perennial. Supralittoral, upland meadows; often.
  • (+)($)Cerasium glomeratum Thuill. – sticky mouse-ear chickweed, clammy chickweed - Annual. As a weed in the vegetable garden of the WSBS settlement; often and dominant.

Genus Coronaria Guett.

  • Coronaria flos-cuculi (L.) A. Br. [Lychnis flos-cuculi L.] – Ragged Robin - Perennial. Wet seashore meadows; often.

Genus Dianthus L. – pink, carnation

  • Dianthus superbus L. – Large Pink - Perennial. Dry sea coasts (sandy and stony); common.

Genus Honkenya Ehrh.

  • Honkenya peploides (L.) Ehrh. subsp. diffusa (Hornem.) Hult. – Sea sandwort, Seaside Sandplant - Perennial. Supralittoral and upper littoral (mostly sandy); common.

Genus Melandrium Röhl.

  • (+)($)Melandrium dioicum (L.) Coss. et Germ. [M. rubrum (Weig.) Garcke] – Red campion - Biennial, perennial. Introduced and settles over the WSBS settlement.

Genus Sagina L. – pearlwort

  • Sagina nodosa (L.) Fenzl – Knotted Pearlwort - Perennial. Seashore damp rocks; often, rare – on bogs and boggy meadows.
  • Sagina procumbens L. – Procumbent Pearlwort - Perennial. In wet destroyed habitats; rare.
  • S. saginoides (L.) Karst. – Alpine or Arctic Pearlwort - Perennial. Listed for WSBS (at the Chernuye Sheli ). The authors have not seen credible collections of this species from WSBS, and conducted search in the nature were not successful.

Genus Silene L. - campion

  • Silene acaulis (L.) Jacq. – Moss Campion - Perennial. Wet coastal north-facing rocks at the Chernuye Sheli. On the Kindo peninsula, requires strict protection (the border ot the species natural habitat).
  • (+)Silene vulgaris (Moench) Garcke (S. cucubalus Wibel) – Bladder Campion - Perennial. An upland glade near the Ershovskie lakes.

Genus Spergula L. – spurrey

  • (+)($)Spergula arvensis L. – Corn Spurrey - Annual. Collected once at the edge of the potato field of the WSBS settlement.

Genus Spergularia (Pers.) J. et C. Presl – sea-spurreys, sandspurrys

  • Spergula salina J. et C. Presl – Salt Sandspurry - Annual, biennial. Middle stony and sandy littoral; quite rare.

Genus Stellaria L. – stitchwort, chickweed

  • Stellaria humifusa Rottb. – Saltmarsh Starwort - Perennial. Stony and silty supralittoral and upper littoral; rare.
  • Stellaria media (L.) Vill. – Common Chickweed - Annual. As a weed near buildings, on vegetable gardens; often.
  • (+)($)Stellaria nemorum L. – Wood Stitchwort - Perennial. In the vegetable garden of the WSBS settlement.
  • Stellaria crassifolia Ehrh. – Fleshy Starwart - Perennial. Stony and silty supralittoral; often.
  • Stellaria fennica (Murb.) Perf. – Perennial. Found only at the WSBS settlement on a little glade.
  • Stellaria graminea L. – Lesser Stitchwort - Perennial. Upland meadows, sea coasts, coastal rocks; common.
  • (+)Stellaria holostea L. – Greater Stitchwort - Perennial. A small group of plants in a motley grass birch forest near destroyed barracks at the Verkhneye Ershovskoe lake.
  • (+)Stellaria palustris Ehrh. ex Hoffm. – Marsh Stitchwort - Perennial. On an upland meadow near the Ershovskie lakes.

Genus Viscaria Bernh. – campion, catchfly

  • Viscaria alpina (L.) G. Don f. [Steris alpina (L.) Šourková] – Alpine Catchfly - Perennial. Lichen-moss complexes on flat open-space rocks; very rare.

Family Portulacaceae Juss.

Genus Montia L. – miner's lettuce, minerslettuce.

  • Montia fontana L. (M. lamprosperma Cham.) – blinks, water-blinks, water chickweed, annual water miner's lettuce - Annual. Wet and boggy sea coasts, coastal rocks, near ditches; often.
